Global Corporate ChallengeOur Perfect Vision Award recipient, The Global Corporate Challenge, is a corporate health and well-being event created to address the emerging health crisis resulting from the triple threat – longer workdays, sedentary occupations and little or no exercise.

The Global Corporate Challenge is a scientifically developed and independently researched corporate health event, designed to change people’s behaviour in a sedentary corporate world to create dynamic, healthy and productive organisations. The GCC has grown from 2000 participants in year one to nearly 150,000 as it enters its eighth year, and as a virtual event, relies on the event website to attract and engage this vast and diverse audience.

The GCC has independently proven results and the endorsement of some of the largest organisations in the world and their CEO’s. Why? Because the GCC increases staff fitness, promotes teamwork, fosters a positive competitive spirit, is great fun, and supports the workforce to be active, healthy, and more productive.

The Need to Act
Armed with the alarming statistics of the poor state of employee health around the world, the Global Corporate Challenge was founded in 2004 in Melbourne, Australia by former Australian Olympic champion Herb Elliott, advertising executive Glenn Riseley and leading Australian nutritionist, Shane Bilsborough MSc (Human Nutrition).

They were concerned that as the world continued to get more complicated, people were losing their relationship with their bodies and the importance of exercise.

Entrepreneurial in their nature, Herb, Glenn and Shane decided that really making a difference meant not sitting around boardrooms talking about what could be done, or conducting countless studies on which approach to take.

Instead they did it themselves, creating a simple virtual health event which was easy to understand, focused on business and was above all else, fun to take part in. The result is a perfect amalgam of Shane’s scientific expertise, Glenn’s consumer behaviour, creative and commercial abilities, and Herb’s wealth of experience and respect across the business and sport worlds.

Making a Difference
A world-first corporate health initiative, Global Corporate Challenge is a unique program aimed at encouraging corporations to help their employees to get active and healthy. This is done via an annual four-month pedometer-based exercise event that encourages an overall increase in incidental exercise around and within the workplace.

With their own personal ongoing financial backing and nothing more than a belief in their idea, the founders established an organisation, which now employs people across 4 continents, rolling out their program to over 75 countries and over 250,000 participants.

Combining Science, Psychology, Support, and Consumer Behaviour
The GCC is a privately owned organisation which receives no government funding and which has reinvested its surplus into improving and growing the event each year. The GCC has been committed since its inception to investing heavily into the not-for-profit Heart Disease and Diabetes Prevention Centre, and funds their vital research with a commitment to ongoing study into disease treatment and prevention. The GCC also established and runs the Footprint Initiative – a program connected to the GCC event that provides assistance to communities in need, all around the world through not for profit projects ‘on the ground’ and by providing financial support. This ensures that any and all donations made by participants in the event are directed in their entirety towards the projects with no erosion of funds by administration or bank fees. GCC covers all ancillary costs. The GCC will also improve the lives of thousands of school children through The Global Children’s Challenge. It will play a critical role in our children’s future by encouraging healthy active habits, and presenting exercise as fun, stimulating and worthwhile. For every participant an organisation enrolls in the GCC, a child in the community will be enrolled in the Global Children’s Challenge at no cost to the school, child, government or parents.

Perfect Vision Award winner, The Global Corporate Challenge is the world’s largest and most exciting corporate health initiative.

CancerQuestPerfect Vision Award recipient CancerQuest, is an educational website that provides reliable information about cancer biology and treatment. CancerQuest is a cancer education and outreach program at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Their mission is to save lives by empowering and educating the world’s population with reliable, current, and comprehensible information about the biology and treatment of cancer. The website is designed for cancer survivors, students, and the general public.

The Director of CancerQuest is Gregg M. Orloff, Ph.D. The development of this program began in 1998 after his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. After attending some of her support group meetings, he realized that many of the patients did not understand cancer or have the information they needed to make informed decisions about their treatment.

CancerQuest was designed to provide an overview of both normal and cancer biology. While most visitors to the website are looking for cancer-related information, Dr. Orloff believes it is important to provide information about how normal cells work. After all, it would be difficult to repair a car if you didn’t understand how cars are supposed to work.

One reason that he made the decision to create CancerQuest was that many websites on the Internet present information without documenting their sources. This can lead to misleading or even fraudulent claims. All material on the CancerQuest website is based on scientific literature that visitors can verify and investigate for themselves.

Working with partners around the globe, CancerQuest endeavors to reach as many people as possible with relevant and helpful information. They are affiliated with both the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University and Emory College. They are located on Emory’s Briarcliff Campus in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Perfect Vision Award winning website, CancerQuest, offers new and interesting ways to present comprehensive and current cancer information.
